FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is it safe to cycle in Versailles?

It is almost as if Versailles was designed with our bike tour in mind. The majority of our ride takes place within the Royal Gardens, where we can enjoy stress-free cycling, far from the traffic and crowds. Outside of the gardens, cycle paths weave their way throughout the town and are set on the footpaths, away from traffic.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Our fleet of BMX bikes ensure that children from the age of 7 can easily keep up on our tour. Our guide has a unique talent for presenting the tour in a way that entertains and captivates all ages, and a day out in Versailles with Boutique Tours offers the perfect mix of family fun and French history. For those too small to reach the pedals, we have child seats available for use, free of charge. Simply let us know when you book, and we will have one ready for you on the day. If your family needs any other extra assistance please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Are we qualified?

Yes! To provide guided visits inside a museum or historical monument in France guides are required to hold a professional license of Guide-Conférencier. At Boutique Tours we are French State registered and accredited professional guides and hold the Carte Professionnelle. Therefore your guide is allowed to guide you both around the grounds and inside the sites! We do not hire unqualified guides. Keep in mind if you book a tour in which your guide will be leading you outside the grounds only, not inside the monument, they are most likely unqualified!

Do I need to be fit?

Our tour of Versailles is a day of smooth, easy riding, on flat terrain. We have lots of stops and rests, and it is far from a gruelling day on the Tour de France. Though you will see much more of Versailles than you would on foot our bikes make it effortless and enjoyable.

What if I haven’t ridden a bike in years?

“Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”  Albert Einstein

Einstein was right about lots of things, including this! We will have you riding confidently in no time. Our bikes are comfortable, stable and easy to ride, making your return to cycling that much smoother.

Unfortunately, we do not have the time to teach you from the beginning, so please only book on tour if you have at least a little riding experience.

What if it rains?

Our guides love a challenge, and we have many secrets up our sleeve to make a rainy day as memorable and fun as a sunny day in Versailles. We have classy jackets to keep you dry, and know all the secret spots to take shelter in.

As our head guide, Stu, likes to say, “the harder it rains, the more memorable it will be…”.

Where and when does the tour start?

We meet at 7:50am for a 8:00am departure at Café Le Paris Montparnasse, 43 Avenue du Maine, 75014

Where does the tour end?

At the end of our tour of Versailles, we will escort you back to the train station and advise you on the best station to exit the train, based on your accommodation, next destination, or our top secret dinner recommendations in Paris.

Can we start the tour in Versailles?

Yes, simply let us know in the notes section when you book and we will contact you with details of where and when to meet us in Versailles.

What should I bring?

Do I have to wear a helmet?

The French believe that on any transport you are powering yourself it is up to you whether you wear a helmet. Thus, helmets are not compulsory but are provided for those who wish to wear one. Meanwhile, riders under 12 are required to wear helmets by French law and we strictly adhere to this at Boutique Tours.

What is included in the ticket price?

Our ticket prices include more than any other tour, including: a top class guide, an unbeatable tour, stylish and comfortable bikes (optional helmet), quality raincoats if the worst is to happen, return train tickets from Paris to Versailles, access to the Chateau, Royal Gardens (including the musical fountain show), Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet, the Grand and Petit Trianons, and a wealth of advice and recommendations for your holiday.

Can I arrive on the day without a booking?

Yes, you can, however we do limit our group sizes to ten on a first-come-first served basis. Feel free to contact us by email in the morning if you are thinking of joining the tour and we will do our best to let you know if there is space.
